- My Story
Growing up I often felt alone, overlooked, and longing for closer connections with the people in my life. Trying whatever I could think of to be seen and heard, without ever just directly telling people how I felt, because I never learned how.
Instead I learned how to be fiercely independent and to manage my feelings on my own. I also learned that everything in life (from my emotions, to my behavior, to the appearance of myself and my home) should to be kept in order and control.
But the rebel in me wasn’t willing to just go along.
I wanted to understand the 'why’ behind the way we are and what we do. It was that desire that led me to psychology; and it was the empath in me, not wanting to see others struggle in the ways I did, that led me to become a therapist and coach.
- My Personal style
What has helped me connect with my clients the most is my innate sense of compassion and empathy, combined with my non-judgmental, relaxed and down-to-earth nature.
Past clients have said that they easily felt comfortable talking with me, have appreciated my ‘realness’ and could tell right away that I was someone who genuinely cared about their wellbeing and helping.
You’ll see my curious nature when working with me, as I often ask questions to help you explore what’s going on for you on a deeper level. Developing your emotional intelligence and recognizing the patterns that may be repeating in your life are the keys to breaking free and living a happier life.
- My approach
Working with me you’ll learn and practice tools that you can use right away. My approach is very action oriented, straightforward and supportive. Clients have often said that I have helped them see their problems differently, learn more about themselves and gained confidence in their ability to continue practicing what they learned on their own.
I view my role as someone who will gently push you outside of your comfort zone while offering complete support and guidance every step of the way. I also focus on the mind-body connection and have seen how powerful it is in both causing issues in our lives and also healing from them.
I incorporate aspects of mindfulness and emphasize self-care, which I view as the “golden ticket” to peak health. I’m a fierce advocate for love, connections, growth and helping people to feel their absolute best. You deserve to experience all of these, and I want to help you get there.
- The technical stuff
A California native, I received my Bachelors in Psychology from San Francisco State University and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, CA. Prior to moving to New York, I spent the last several years working in jail and maximum-security prison helping men learn about emotional intelligence, heal from histories of trauma and violence, and learn skills to navigate the stressful and challenging world of prison. I’ve spent years working with men both one-on-one and in groups to unpack what it means to be a man, how to change expectations of themselves and their role in society, and how to break unhealthy patterns of behavior.
